Croatian Wanderlust
Everyone is talking about Croatia! - so here's the why, what, where and who you need to know.
Situated just east of Italy, just over the Adriatic sea, lies a quietly majestic country known for their sword dancing, spectacular beaches and dreamy landscapes. Croatia has some of the worlds best National Parks and the local cuisine is to die for.
When booking your charter you could be sailing from Split (North) or Dubrovnik (South), or both and we can make sure you know where and how to get where you're going.
Our marinas are well known and English is widely spoken. Book a transfer, or hop in a cab - either way you'll easily find your yacht in no time. However, always be aware - official taxi cabs in Croatia must have a running meter, and make sure you get a price before you say "onward to the yacht!".
Once you reach the marina, you will be greeted and shown the ropes. You'll be briefed on your yacht, some official last minuet checks and documents before you hop aboard, and finally you're home! It's time to kick back and experience Croatia.
Activity 'must does' from Trogir/Split:
Split is checkered with cobbled lanes that make up its charmingly chaotic high-street. The city's laid-back vibe and wealth of architectural treats are what make this seaside town one of the gems of the Adriatic.
Snorkel - Most of our affiliated yachts include snorkelling equipment, but make sure to mention your interest while you book, that way we can make sure you have all the right stuff in the right sizes.
Paddle or SUP - Some of our contacts in the area have their own SUP (stand-up paddle boards) for you to rent, if you are looking for something a little less wobbly, or if they can't guarantee a SUP we can certainly find something for you close by, or why not bring your trusty flamingo lilo (avec gin holder, of coarse).
Nature reserves - Cycle through Croatias version of Tuscany in Vidova Gora, just a skip across from Split in Bol. Swim in the blissful Stiniva cove on Vis Island or experience the majesty of The Lastovo Archipelago - An Island dedicated to preserving it's natural habitat. snorkel, hike, dive, walk or fish (with permits).
Hiking/walking - Take a walk on the wild side before or after your charter and venture into the grizzled mountain tops that are scattered along the islands of the Dalmatian coastline.
Mali Kozjak - An more laid back option than Mosor, this hike provides a breathtaking headland, jutting into the sea. Showing off the best possible views of the historic city of Split. Follow the sign posts and look out over the ancient roman ruins of Salona and the smaller towns of Trogir & Solin. Conveniently there are also several mountain lodges along the way for overnight trips.
Eat your heart out!
Each region of Croatia tends to have it's own distinct culinary traditions. With influences from her neighbours, you will certainly find that some dishes are similar to something you've had before. The Dalmatia coast cuisine (where you'll be sailing) is based heavily on fish, greens, olive oil, and seasonings like garlic, rosemary, parsley, etc...
Spoil yourself and take along a chef/hostess to cook local cuisine for you as you sail. Alternativley, chat to our experts about getting suggestions for the best places to stop & restaurants to slip into to experience the true taste of Croatian cuisine. There's nothing like coming home weighing a little more then when you left!
A brief history of Croatia
The people of Croatia, Croats, speak Croatian and their currency is the Kuna. Although Croatia is a member of the EU they have kept their own currency. Croatia hosts a number of religious groups, including Catholic, Orthodox & Muslim communities. Because of their close contact with neighbouring countries, you will experience a rich, mixed and open environmental culture. Family is at the centre of all life and Croats adore savouring time with their loved ones.
The Mediterranean lifestyle encourages much public activitiy, making Cafés the perfect hangout and beaches the ideal spot for catching up with old friends. Embrace the sun and the warm culture of Croatia as you bask in the beautiful nature around you.
Seasons to remember
High season - when all the tourists come out to play - starts in August for Croatia, making restaurants, marina's and beaches busier. Restaurants & Cafés will be buzzing, which might make it tough to get a seat, but trust us, it's worth the wait.
Busy marinas mean that docking space becomes highly sought after and even mooring buoys are snapped up. But you can still anchor and use your tender as your trusty chariot to and fro.
No need to feel stranded afloat while the bustling land-lovers sip away the wine, get involved!
